Anytime I have been fishing off Key West; I come home and tell people I’ve been fishing for dolphin (mahi-mahi). No matter what their age, they get this confused and almost sad look in their eyes because when a landlubber hears dolphin they immediately think of Flipper and Ranger Rick. So to keep from becoming the No. 1 bad guy, I always have to say “not Flipper”. Although they may still be confused they no longer think I am hunting everybody’s favorite ocean-residing mammal.
So the next time someone tells you they have been fishing for dolphin, think about “not flipper” and know that for all the tails of daring do it’s the ocean which unites us all.
