How appropriate to be writing this today, five inches of rain and no signs of it slowing down. You just can’t stop Mother Nature. However, you can use what she gives and … with a little thought make lemonade! (…or a wine cooler.)
Well, it has happened again. The wine gods beckoned and I have bowed before them with the offering of “It’s a grape day!” As you think about grapes and their journey to become wine, you realize, life if lived well, is like a good wine.
When we start, there is a small plant that will become a fruit-bearing vine. During the first stages, the plant is nurtured; cared for; trained for the trestle; trimmed of inappropriate growth; watered and fertilized. All the while, the caregiver patiently waits for the vine to reach maturity and begin producing grapes. Still not knowing what quality of grape the well-tended vine will yield.
If we are lucky, the grape vine will produce a fruit that provides a wine to be remembered long after the cork has been pulled. However, just like life, the wine must be drunk, savored and enjoyed before the value can be determined.
Don’t let another day pass without knowing that a “grape day” is yours…just pull the cork and pour! Life when lived well produces fruits that not only satisfy our needs but provide memories of moments that remain with us forever.
