When the concept for “Chasing the Dream” roared from the deep recesses of a land-locked beach bum’s mind. I thought Mr. Sailfish would be chasing the “tail”. However, as with all good things, a fluid motion of continual change reaps unfathomable benefits. Sounds good; but the truth is…when I finished the sailfish it was too big to be chasing the yellowtail. The size would have made the final piece much too large for me to carry on the road.
So with a leap of faith, “Yellowtail” became a symbol for each one of us who chases dreams among the stars. Yeah…maybe the dreams are too big, the waters unknown, self-doubt rampant like a winter outbreak of the flu, and sometimes you are the only one on the boat not looking for a life raft. Nevertheless, knowing that it is as much about the ability to dream as it is about the dream itself, we dream on. (I dream on.)
Since I could walk, I have been “Chasing the Dream” in some form or fashion. I know living with a guy who dreams for a living can be, at times, very frustrating. My wife, Whitney, will be the first to tell you that the adventure we call our lives was not the direction her personal cruise ship was to sail. However, the ship we are currently on is absolutely 5-star and through each of our dreams and the dreams we share we sail toward Paradise everyday.
Don’t be afraid to chase the big fish. He can be caught; and even if you miss, the adventure will leave you with stories to be told and new friends to visit along the highway of life. In the end, maybe that…is the big fish! Dream on.
